A closed rhinoplasty uses incisions inside the nose and is generally less invasive than open rhinoplasty. This procedure also doesn't leave visible scars.

However, some patients may require open rhinoplasty, which uses a very small incision under the columella, which is the piece of tissue that separates your nostrils. This gives the plastic surgeon more access to the tissues and bones in your nose, which is often necessary for more invasive surgeries.

Your lifestyle may also preclude you from getting rhinoplasty in certain cases. In particular, patients who smoke are unlikely to be good candidates for the procedure. Your face will need to be fully developed in order to qualify for a rhinoplasty procedure. For most people, facial growth finishes between the ages of 17 and 22.
