Brow Lift in Las Vegas
Restore a naturally youthful, refreshed brow position with expert forehead rejuvenation
What is a Brow Lift?
A brow lift, also called a forehead lift, is a surgical procedure designed to raise sagging eyebrows and reduce the horizontal creases that develop across the forehead, as well as frown lines between the brows. As we age, the soft tissues and skin of the forehead descend, causing the brows to drop and creating a tired, angry, or sad expression that may not reflect how you actually feel.
The procedure repositions the underlying muscles and tissues of the forehead, elevating the brows to a more youthful, natural position. Many patients combine a brow lift with eyelid surgery (blepharoplasty) for comprehensive upper-face rejuvenation, as brow ptosis and upper eyelid hooding often occur together.
Why People Choose a Brow Lift
- Heavy, drooping brows that create a tired or stern look
- Deep horizontal forehead lines that persist at rest
- Frown lines (glabellar lines) between the eyebrows
- Excess upper eyelid skin caused by brow descent
- Asymmetry between the left and right brow position
Brow Lift Techniques
Dr. Troell selects the technique best suited to your anatomy, degree of brow ptosis, hairline position, and aesthetic goals. Each approach has distinct advantages.
Endoscopic Brow Lift
What it is: A minimally invasive technique using a small camera (endoscope) inserted through 3-5 short incisions hidden behind the hairline. The forehead tissues are released and elevated, then secured in the new position with absorbable fixation devices.
Why used: Produces the least visible scarring and shortest recovery. Ideal for patients with mild to moderate brow ptosis and a normal or low hairline who want subtle, natural-looking elevation.
Trade-offs: May provide less lift than open techniques in patients with severe ptosis. Not ideal for patients who need significant hairline adjustment or have very thick forehead skin.
Coronal Brow Lift
What it is: The traditional open technique using a single continuous incision across the top of the scalp from ear to ear, set well behind the hairline. The entire forehead is lifted as a unit, excess skin is removed, and muscles are modified.
Why used: Provides the most powerful lift and greatest control over brow position. Best for patients with significant brow ptosis, deep forehead creases, or those who need substantial muscle modification to address severe frown lines.
Trade-offs: Longer scar (hidden in hair). Raises the hairline, making it less suitable for patients with a high forehead or receding hairline. Longer recovery and more temporary numbness behind the incision.
Temporal Brow Lift
What it is: A targeted technique that addresses only the outer (lateral) portion of the brow through small incisions hidden in the temporal hairline. Lifts the tail of the brow without affecting the central forehead.
Why used: Ideal for patients whose primary concern is lateral brow hooding that makes the eyes look tired. Often combined with upper blepharoplasty for a complete upper-face refresh. Minimal downtime compared to full brow lift techniques.
Trade-offs: Does not address central forehead wrinkles, frown lines, or medial brow ptosis. Provides a limited, targeted correction rather than comprehensive forehead rejuvenation.
Pretrichial Brow Lift
What it is: An open technique with the incision placed along the front edge of the hairline (pretrichial) rather than behind it. The forehead skin is elevated and excess tissue is removed at the hairline.
Why used: Specifically designed for patients with a high forehead or receding hairline who want brow elevation without further raising the hairline. Can actually lower the hairline while lifting the brows.
Trade-offs: The incision scar sits at the visible hairline border, which may be noticeable in patients with thin hair or those who wear their hair pulled back. Requires meticulous closure technique for a fine scar.
What Happens During a Brow Lift
Anesthesia
General anesthesia or IV sedation with local anesthesia is administered for your comfort. Dr. Troell will recommend the best option based on the technique selected and the extent of the procedure.
Incision Placement
Incisions are made according to the chosen technique: small ports behind the hairline for endoscopic, a continuous coronal incision for traditional, at the hairline edge for pretrichial, or in the temporal hair for a lateral lift. All incisions are designed to be concealed.
Tissue Release
The forehead skin and underlying tissues are carefully elevated from the bone. Key periosteal attachments and corrugator/procerus muscles (responsible for frown lines) are released or modified to allow the brow to move to a higher, more natural position.
Fixation
The elevated brow tissues are secured in the desired position using absorbable endotine devices, sutures, or small bone tunnels depending on the technique. Excess skin is trimmed if an open approach is used. The goal is a stable, natural-appearing brow position.
Monitoring
Following closure, a light compressive dressing is applied to minimize swelling. You are monitored in recovery until fully awake, then released to go home the same day with detailed post-operative instructions and medications for comfort.
Why Choose Dr. Troell for Brow Lift Surgery
A brow lift requires precise understanding of forehead anatomy, nerve pathways, and the subtle balance between the brow and upper eyelid. As a board-certified facial plastic surgeon and otolaryngologist with over 30 years of experience, Dr. Troell brings deep expertise in upper facial anatomy and the nuanced judgment needed to create natural, balanced results.
Brow Lift vs. Eyelid Surgery: Which Do You Need?
One of the most common questions patients ask is whether they need a brow lift, eyelid surgery, or both. The distinction matters because each procedure addresses a different anatomical cause of upper-face aging.
A brow lift corrects descent of the brow itself. When the brow drops, it pushes tissue onto the upper eyelid, creating heaviness and hooding that originates above the brow bone. An upper blepharoplasty removes excess skin and fat from the eyelid itself, addressing changes that occur within the eyelid structures.
Many patients have both brow ptosis and eyelid redundancy. During your consultation, Dr. Troell will evaluate the exact source of upper-face heaviness and recommend the right procedure or combination.
- Low or drooping eyebrows that create a tired or angry expression
- Deep horizontal creases across the forehead
- Frown lines between the brows that persist at rest
- Upper eyelid heaviness caused by brow descent (not eyelid skin alone)
- Asymmetric brow position you would like corrected
- Loss of the natural arch or shape of the brow

Brow Lift Recovery Timeline
Initial Recovery
Moderate swelling and bruising around the forehead and eyes. A light compressive dressing or wrap is worn. Keep your head elevated. Cold compresses help reduce swelling. Pain is typically mild to moderate and managed with prescribed medication.
Early Healing
Sutures or staples are removed around day 7-10. Bruising begins to fade and can be concealed with makeup. Swelling migrates downward toward the eyes before resolving. Most patients feel comfortable going out in public.
Return to Activities
Most patients return to work and normal daily activities within two weeks. Avoid strenuous exercise, heavy lifting, and bending over. Temporary numbness or tingling behind the incision is normal and gradually resolves.
Final Results
Residual swelling fully resolves and the final brow position becomes apparent. Incision scars continue to mature and fade. Full sensation typically returns. The rejuvenated brow position and smoother forehead are your lasting result.

Brow Lift FAQs
What is the difference between a brow lift and Botox for the forehead?
Botox temporarily relaxes the muscles that cause dynamic wrinkles (lines that appear with expression), but it cannot lift a brow that has physically descended due to tissue laxity and gravity. A brow lift surgically repositions the brow and underlying structures for a lasting correction. Botox may complement a brow lift but is not a substitute when true ptosis is present.
Will a brow lift change my facial expression?
A well-performed brow lift restores the brow to its natural, youthful position rather than creating an artificially surprised or "frozen" look. Dr. Troell takes a conservative approach, aiming for a refreshed appearance that preserves your natural expressiveness and avoids over-elevation.
Can a brow lift be combined with other procedures?
Yes, a brow lift is frequently combined with upper blepharoplasty (eyelid surgery) for comprehensive upper-face rejuvenation. It can also be performed alongside a facelift, neck lift, or skin resurfacing. Combining procedures reduces overall recovery time compared to staging them separately.
How long do brow lift results last?
Brow lift results are long-lasting, typically enduring for many years. While aging continues, the brow will always be in a higher position than it would have been without surgery. Factors like skin quality, sun exposure, genetics, and lifestyle influence how long results remain optimal.
Will I have visible scars?
Scars from a brow lift are designed to be well-concealed. Endoscopic incisions are small and hidden behind the hairline. Coronal and pretrichial incision scars are placed within or at the edge of the hair. Over time, all scars continue to mature and fade. Dr. Troell uses meticulous closure techniques to minimize scar visibility.
Is a brow lift painful?
Most patients describe brow lift recovery as more uncomfortable than painful. Post-operative discomfort is typically mild to moderate and well-managed with prescribed medications. Temporary numbness or a "tight" sensation in the forehead is common and resolves as healing progresses.
What is the best age for a brow lift?
There is no single "best" age for a brow lift. Candidacy depends on the degree of brow ptosis, forehead aging, and individual anatomy rather than a specific number. Most brow lift patients are between their 40s and 60s, but younger patients with hereditary low brows and older patients seeking comprehensive rejuvenation are also good candidates.
Which brow lift technique is right for me?
The ideal technique depends on your hairline position, degree of brow ptosis, skin thickness, and aesthetic goals. Dr. Troell evaluates all of these factors during your consultation and recommends the approach that will deliver the best result for your specific anatomy. Most patients today are good candidates for the endoscopic technique.
