Neck Lift in Las Vegas
A neck lift restores a defined jawline and youthful neck contour by tightening the underlying platysma muscle and removing excess skin — addressing jowling, "turkey neck," and platysmal banding that cosmetic injections alone cannot correct.
What Is a Neck Lift?
A neck lift addresses age-related changes in the lower face and neck that no non-surgical treatment can match. As we age, the platysma muscle (the broad sheet of muscle in the neck) can split into visible bands, the skin loses elasticity, and fat redistributes around the jawline — creating jowls, "turkey neck," and platysmal banding.
Neck lift surgery typically combines two components: cervicoplasty (skin tightening and excess removal) and platysmaplasty (muscle repair and tightening). Often performed alongside facelift for comprehensive lower-face rejuvenation, but can also be performed as a standalone procedure.
Performed by Dr. Robert Troell — board-certified facial plastic surgeon (ABFPRS) with 30+ years of cosmetic experience — in our AAAASF-accredited Las Vegas surgical facility.
Facelift & Neck Lift Technique
Dr. Troell explains the VASER-assisted facelift and neck-lift surgical approach — addressing jowls, platysmal banding, and lower-face contour.
Neck Lift Techniques
Cervicoplasty
Skin-tightening component. Excess neck skin is removed and the remaining skin is redraped for a smoother contour.
Platysmaplasty
Muscle-tightening component. The platysma muscle is tightened (often via a small submental incision) to correct visible bands and define the jawline.
Submental Liposuction
Direct fat removal under the chin and along the jawline via small punctate incisions. Often performed with neck lift but can be standalone.
Are You a Neck Lift Candidate?
Strong candidates for a neck lift typically have:
- Visible "turkey neck" or platysmal banding. Vertical bands of muscle visible in the neck at rest or with movement.
- Jowling. Loss of definition along the jawline; sagging at the lower face.
- Excess submental fat. Localized fat under the chin that resists diet and exercise.
- Skin laxity in the neck. Excess, loose skin that no non-surgical treatment can address.
- Realistic expectations. Understanding that neck lift produces dramatic, surgical-level rejuvenation — not a subtle non-surgical effect.
Patients with discrete submental fat or jowls but only mild-to-moderate skin laxity may not need a full neck lift. A minimally invasive alternative exists: VASER + Renuvion combines ultrasound liposuction with helium-plasma skin tightening, an in-office procedure with about one week of social downtime — documented in Dr. Troell's 58-patient published study.
Dr. Troell will evaluate your goals and anatomy at your consultation to determine the right approach for you.
Why Patients Choose Neck Lift
- Restored jawline definition. Sharp, youthful jaw-to-neck angle.
- Smooth neck contour. Elimination of platysmal bands and "turkey neck" appearance.
- Reduced submental fullness. Sleeker profile from any angle.
- Long-lasting results. Neck lift outcomes typically last 10-15+ years.
- Combinable with facelift. Comprehensive lower-face + neck rejuvenation in a single procedure.

What to Expect After Neck Lift

- Week 1. Drains and sutures removed. Bruising and swelling peak. Most patients comfortable enough for light activity at home.
- Weeks 2-3. Return to desk work. Continued compression garment use. Most visible bruising resolved.
- Weeks 4-6. Light exercise resumes. Final swelling continues to resolve.
- Months 2-3. Final neck contour settles. Scars (if any) are pink; fade progressively.
- Month 6-12. Scars mature; final result fully settled.
You will receive detailed post-operative instructions covering wound care, activity restrictions, and the timeline for resuming exercise and other activities.
Neck Lift Cost in Las Vegas
Neck lift cost varies based on whether it's combined with facelift, individual anatomy, and the techniques used. At Troell Cosmetic Surgery, neck lift is a self-pay procedure — we do not bill insurance for any cosmetic procedure.
Pricing is provided in detail at your consultation. Financing options through CareCredit and Alphaeon are available for qualifying patients.
Most patients consider neck lift in combination with facelift for comprehensive lower-face rejuvenation; combined surgery typically reduces total cost compared to staged procedures.

Surgical Risks & Recovery Considerations
Neck lift surgery carries general surgical risks. Most are rare with appropriate patient selection, proper surgical technique, and adherence to post-operative instructions.
- Bleeding or hematoma. Uncommon; managed with surgical drainage if it occurs.
- Infection. Rare with proper technique and antibiotic prophylaxis.
- Scarring. All surgical procedures produce some scarring. Scars typically fade significantly over 12-18 months.
- Asymmetry. Subtle asymmetry can occur and may require minor revision.
- Anesthesia risks. General risks associated with anesthesia administration in healthy patients.
- Suboptimal results. Final outcomes depend on individual healing, anatomy, and adherence to post-op instructions.
A complete risk discussion is part of every surgical consultation. Dr. Troell will review your specific risk profile and answer any questions before scheduling.

Neck Lift FAQ
Do I need a facelift if I get a neck lift?
Not necessarily. A neck lift can be performed alone if your concerns are limited to the neck and jawline. However, many patients with neck-area aging also have related facial aging (mid-face descent, jowls), and a combined approach produces more harmonious overall results.
Where will the scars be?
Neck lift scars are typically placed in concealed locations: behind the ears, in the natural creases under the chin, and (in some techniques) in the hairline behind the ear. Scars fade significantly over 12-18 months.
How long do results last?
Neck lift results typically last 10-15 years or longer. The procedure doesn't stop the aging process, but it sets the clock back significantly. Maintenance with non-surgical treatments (Botox, fillers, skin care) can extend the youthful appearance further.
Can I have a neck lift instead of a facelift?
If your concerns are limited to the neck and jawline, yes. If you also have mid-face descent, deep nasolabial folds, or significant cheek-area aging, a facelift may be more appropriate. Dr. Troell will recommend the right approach at your consultation.
How long is recovery?
Most patients return to desk work within 2-3 weeks. Light exercise resumes at 4-6 weeks. Full activity at 6-8 weeks. Final results settle over 3-6 months.
