Chin Augmentation in Las Vegas
Achieve facial balance and a stronger profile with expert chin implant surgery
What is Chin Augmentation?
Chin augmentation is a facial contouring procedure that improves the size, shape, and projection of the chin by placing a solid silicone implant over the existing bone. A weak or recessed chin can make the nose appear larger, the neck appear heavier, and the overall facial profile appear unbalanced. By bringing the chin into better proportion with the rest of the face, the procedure enhances the entire facial profile.
The implant is placed through a small incision either inside the mouth (intraoral) or under the chin (submental). The procedure typically takes 30-45 minutes and can be performed under local anesthesia with sedation. Many patients combine chin augmentation with rhinoplasty, facelift, or neck liposuction for comprehensive profile refinement.
Why People Choose Chin Augmentation
- A weak or receding chin that makes the nose look disproportionately large
- Poor facial profile balance when viewed from the side
- Lack of definition along the jawline
- Desire for stronger, more defined facial contours
- Facial asymmetry related to chin position

Types of Chin Implants
Dr. Troell uses anatomically designed, medical-grade solid silicone implants. The right implant is selected based on your bone structure, soft tissue thickness, and desired outcome.
Standard Chin Implant
The most commonly used implant, designed to add forward projection to the central chin. It sits directly on the mentum (chin bone) and creates a natural-looking increase in chin projection. Ideal for patients who primarily need more anterior projection without significant width enhancement.
Extended Chin Implant
Features lateral wings that extend along the jawline beyond the central chin. Adds both forward projection and lateral augmentation for improved jaw definition. Best for patients who want a stronger chin and more defined jawline transition, or those combining chin augmentation with jowl reduction.
Custom Chin Implant
A standard or extended implant that is hand-carved by the surgeon during the procedure to address specific anatomical needs. Used for patients with significant chin asymmetry, prior trauma, or unusual bone anatomy that a standard off-the-shelf implant cannot adequately address.

Chin Augmentation Recovery Timeline
Initial Recovery
Moderate swelling, tightness, and mild discomfort around the chin and lower lip. A compression garment or tape is worn to support the implant position. Soft or liquid diet recommended. Keep head elevated when resting.
Early Healing
Swelling begins to decrease noticeably. External sutures removed around day 7 if a submental approach was used. Transition to soft foods. Most patients feel comfortable returning to non-physical work within 5-7 days.
Return to Activities
Most swelling has resolved by week 3-4. Resume normal diet and daily activities. Avoid contact sports and strenuous exercise that could impact the chin area. Temporary lower lip numbness is normal and gradually resolves.
Final Results
All residual swelling resolves and the implant settles into its final position. The soft tissues fully adapt to the new chin contour. Full sensation returns. The enhanced profile and facial balance are your permanent result.

Chin Augmentation FAQs
How do I know if I need a chin implant?
The best way to assess is a profile evaluation. If your chin recedes behind an imaginary vertical line drawn from the lower lip, you may benefit from augmentation. During your consultation, Dr. Troell will evaluate your facial proportions, bone structure, and soft tissue to determine whether a chin implant would improve your overall facial harmony.
What material are the implants made from?
Dr. Troell uses solid medical-grade silicone implants, which have been used safely in facial augmentation for decades. Unlike gel-filled implants, solid silicone does not leak, rupture, or degrade over time. The implants are biocompatible and can be easily removed or replaced if desired in the future.
Is the incision visible?
The incision is placed either inside the mouth (intraoral approach) or in the natural crease under the chin (submental approach). Both locations heal with minimal to no visible scarring. The submental incision is typically very small and fades into the natural chin crease over time.
Can a chin implant be combined with rhinoplasty?
Yes, chin augmentation and rhinoplasty are frequently combined for comprehensive profile refinement. A weak chin can make the nose appear larger than it actually is. By augmenting the chin at the same time as refining the nose, Dr. Troell creates balanced proportions in a single procedure with one recovery period.
Is chin augmentation permanent?
Yes, chin implants provide a permanent enhancement. The solid silicone implant does not resorb or degrade over time. However, the implant can be removed or exchanged for a different size if the patient's preferences change in the future.
What about chin filler instead of an implant?
Injectable fillers can add modest chin projection and are a reasonable option for patients wanting to "test" a stronger chin without surgery. However, fillers are temporary (lasting 12-18 months), require repeated treatments, and become more expensive than an implant over time. For patients seeking permanent enhancement with precise, predictable results, an implant is the gold standard.
Can I feel the implant through my skin?
The implant is placed directly on the bone and beneath the periosteum (bone lining) and soft tissue. In most patients, the implant is not visible or palpable through the skin. Patients with very thin soft tissue may feel the edges of the implant if they press firmly, but this is not noticeable in normal daily life.
