What Is a Mini Facelift?
A mini facelift is a limited-incision lower-face lift. The incision is shorter than a full facelift — typically around the ear without extending far into the scalp — and the work concentrates on the jawline and the early jowl rather than on the whole face and neck.
It is worth being plain about what the word means, because the market uses it loosely. A mini facelift is not a smaller-priced version of a deep plane facelift, and it does not produce the same result. It is a different operation with a different scope: less lifting, a shorter scar, a faster recovery, and a correction that does not last as long. For the right patient that is an excellent trade. Who a Mini Facelift Suits — and Who It Does Not
It tends to suit you if
- You are noticing early jowling along the jawline, and the rest of the face still reads as youthful.
- Your neck is relatively clean — minimal loose skin, no significant banding.
- Your skin still has elasticity, so a shorter lift can hold.
- You are typically in your forties to early fifties, though age matters far less than tissue quality.
- You want a shorter recovery and are content with a subtler, earlier-stage correction.
It is the wrong operation if
- You have significant neck laxity or platysmal banding. A mini lift does not treat the neck, and a lifted jawline above an untreated neck looks unbalanced.
- You have midface descent or deep nasolabial folds. Repositioning those requires the deeper release of a full or deep plane facelift.
- You have substantial volume loss — lifting alone will not restore it, and facial fat grafting may be the better or additional answer.
- You want a result that lasts as long as a full facelift. It will not.

What the Operation Involves
The incision is placed in the natural creases in front of and around the ear, and is shorter than a full facelift incision — which is where the term “short scar” comes from. Through it, the underlying SMAS layer is tightened and repositioned to restore the jawline, and the skin is re-draped without tension. Excess skin is trimmed conservatively; a mini lift pulled tight is the classic way to produce an operated look, and is avoided.
Where a small amount of fullness under the chin contributes to the jawline, limited liposuction of that area is sometimes performed at the same time. Where volume rather than laxity is the dominant issue, fat grafting may be combined instead.
Anesthesia
Because the operation is shorter and less extensive than a full facelift, some patients are candidates for the practice’s awake, local-anesthetic approach rather than general anesthesia. Whether that suits you depends on the extent of the lift, your medical history and your own preference — it is decided at consultation, not assumed. These procedures are performed in the practice’s office surgical suite.
Mini Facelift vs. Full and Deep Plane Facelift
The three operations are not tiers of the same thing — they treat different amounts of face.
- Mini facelift — shorter incision, SMAS tightening, lower face and jawline only. Fastest recovery, shortest-lived result, no neck correction.
- Standard facelift — longer incision into the hairline and behind the ear, addressing moderate-to-severe sagging of face and neck together.
- Deep plane facelift — releases and repositions the deeper tissues, including the SMAS and fat compartments, as one composite unit; the strongest correction of the midface and jawline, and the longest-lasting.

Mini Facelift Recovery
Recovery is shorter than a full facelift, which is much of the appeal. Timelines are typical, not guaranteed.
- Days 1–3: swelling and bruising peak; head elevated, light activity only.
- Week 1: sutures in front of the ear typically come out around day 5–7.
- Weeks 1–2: most patients are socially presentable with makeup, though residual swelling is normal.
- Weeks 2–4: return to exercise in stages, avoiding anything that raises blood pressure sharply early on.
- Months 2–6: swelling continues to settle and the result refines; scars in front of the ear soften and fade over 12 months.
Scars are permanent but sit in the natural creases around the ear, where they are generally inconspicuous once mature.
What Determines the Cost of a Mini Facelift in Las Vegas?
