Overview
This dataset provides anonymized, aggregate counts of selected facial plastic surgery
procedures performed at Troell Cosmetic Surgery & Facial Plastic Clinic in Las Vegas,
Nevada, from 2019 through 2024. It captures the procedure mix and demographic profile
of patients treated in a high-volume, single-surgeon private practice.
The dataset is intended for researchers, journalists, clinicians, analysts, and educators
interested in understanding real-world trends in facial plastic surgery at the practice
level, including how procedure volumes vary by year, age group, and gender.
What This Dataset Contains
Each row in the CSV represents an aggregate combination of:
- Year — 2019, 2020, 2021, 2022, 2023, or 2024.
-
Procedure category — facial procedures commonly performed at the clinic, including:
- Rhinoplasty
- Blepharoplasty
- Facelift
- Brow lift
- Chin augmentation
- Age group — broad age bands (for example: 18–29, 30–39, 40–54, 55–69).
- Gender — Female, Male, or Other/NotSpecified.
For each year–procedure–age group–gender combination, the dataset reports:
clinic_case_volume— number of procedures in that cell.volume_category— Low, Medium, or High, based on relative volume.trend_direction— Increasing, Stable, or Decreasing compared with prior years.data_source— for this release: Clinic Aggregate.
No patient-level records, dates of birth, addresses, or other identifiers are included.
Key Findings at a Glance
Based on the aggregated counts in this dataset:
-
Rhinoplasty and facelift show the strongest growth between 2019 and 2024,
with a noticeable increase in patients aged 30–54 seeking facial rejuvenation procedures. -
Blepharoplasty remains a consistently popular procedure, especially among patients
in the 40–54 and 55–69 age groups. -
The practice maintains a meaningful male patient segment, particularly for rhinoplasty
and chin augmentation, alongside a predominantly female patient base. -
There is an identifiable post-2020 rebound in elective facial surgery volume, consistent
with broader post-pandemic trends in cosmetic medicine.
Users of the dataset are encouraged to perform their own analyses, such as trends by procedure
type, age group, or gender, and to compare the results with national statistics from professional
societies.
Methodology and De-Identification
Data were extracted from the clinic’s internal records and aggregated before publication.
The following steps were taken to protect patient privacy and support responsible use:
- Data are reported only at the level of year, procedure category, age band, and gender.
- Age is grouped into broad bands; no exact ages or dates of birth are provided.
- No names, contact information, medical record numbers, or other direct identifiers are included.
-
Cells with very small counts may be avoided or merged in future updates to further reduce
theoretical re-identification risk.
The dataset is designed to align with HIPAA-style de-identification principles by relying on
aggregation and removal of direct identifiers. It is not possible to identify individual patients
from the released data.
Suggested Uses
Examples of how this dataset may be used include:
- Comparing practice-level facial procedure trends in Las Vegas to national plastic surgery statistics.
- Exploring how demand for rhinoplasty, blepharoplasty, and facelift procedures varies by age group and gender.
- Supporting data-driven reporting and feature articles on cosmetic surgery trends in Nevada.
- Providing sample data for teaching, training, or methodological demonstrations in health data analytics.
The dataset is not intended for individualized clinical decision-making and should not
be used to predict outcomes for specific patients.
