Dr. Troell offers three types of FDA-approved wrinkle relaxers - Botox, Dysport, and Xeomin. All three are derived from Botulinum type A, but there are some key differences between them.
Botox
Botox is arguably the best-known brand of wrinkle relaxer. It is very effective for treating facial wrinkles in areas like the crows feet, glabella and forehead.
Dysport
Dysport has a very similar formula to Botox, but with a different dilution. Dysport tends to spread further once injected, making it very effective for treating larger wrinkles.
Xeomin
Out of the three wrinkle relaxer brands, Xeomin is the only one that does not contain any additives, which reduces the chances of an allergic reaction.
Botox candidacy
Am I a candidate for Botox?
Wrinkle relaxer patients should be adults who have developed moderate to severe wrinkles. Patients should not have any serious health conditions and should not be pregnant or nursing. You should also have a realistic outlook. While wrinkle relaxers can help improve the texture of your skin, it won't dramatically change your appearance.
Prior to treatment, our office will conduct a health assessment to make sure you do not have any conditions that could make injectable treatments unsafe. We will also make sure you are not taking any medications that could interfere with the injectables.
Benefits of wrinkle relaxers
Wrinkle relaxers have a variety of benefits as an anti-aging treatment.
The biggest benefit of wrinkle relaxers is that they minimize the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. This makes your skin appear smoother, which can give you a more youthful look.
Many patients find that this youthful look gives them a boost of confidence. While it's not a quick fix for more serious self-esteem issues, wrinkle relaxers can help you feel better with the way you look.
Wrinkle relaxer appointments usually take just 15 to 30 minutes to complete, so you can get in and out the door on your lunch break. There's also no downtime after your procedure.
These wrinkle-relaxing treatments are easy and nearly painless. You may feel a small amount of pinching or stinging at the injection site, but the sensation is very mild and not overwhelming.
Expectations on the Day of Your Wrinkle Relaxing Procedure
Prior to getting Botox, Dysport, or Xeomin, our team will talk to you briefly about your medical history to make sure these treatments are safe for you. We'll also talk to you about specific areas of the face you'd like to address.
During the appointment, we will clean your face and mark the designated treatment area. We may apply a small amount of numbing cream, particularly if you're sensitive to needles. This will make the procedure more comfortable for you.
Then, we will proceed with the injections. This process is nonsurgical and takes just a few minutes to complete. You may notice a small amount of pinching or stinging. You'll be able to drive yourself home after the procedure and resume your normal routine.
Recovery From Wrinkle Relaxers - What to Expect
After your injections, you may notice some minor swelling, redness, or bruising. This will go away after a few days. You will be able to resume your normal routine, but we encourage you to avoid exercising for the first day or so after injections.
Keep in mind that your wrinkles will look the same for the first few days after treatment, as it takes time for the injections to work. You'll start to notice results after three to seven days.
Since this treatment isn't permanent, you'll start to notice the results wearing off after three to five months. We encourage you to schedule follow-up appointments to maintain your results.

The lifespan of your injectable treatment depends more on your body and lifestyle than on the type of injectable you choose. However, Xeomin tends to have a slightly shorter lifespan than Botox or Dysport.
Most patients will start to see results in three to seven days, and some may even see results sooner.
During the injection, you may feel a slight pinching or stinging. Afterward, you won't feel any difference in your face, even though your facial muscles won't be moving the same way.
We recommend avoiding alcohol and intense exercise during the day before and after your injections. This will help minimize swelling.
